By Friday. the question format inside ChatGPT started to look less like generic Q&A and more like a personal finance dashboard.. OpenAI launched a new set of personal finance tools in preview for ChatGPT Pro subscribers in the U.S.. enabling users to connect their accounts and ask questions ranging from spending analysis to future financial planning.

OpenAI is partnering with the financial connection service Plaid to handle the account connections.. Users can connect to over 12,000 financial institutions, including Schwab, Fidelity, Chase, Robinhood, American Express, and Capital One.. After connecting, they see a dashboard covering portfolio performance, spending, subscriptions, and upcoming payments.

The rollout lands just one month after OpenAI acquired the team behind personal finance startup Hiro.. That startup was backed by firms like Ribbit, General Catalyst, and Restive in April.. OpenAI said the Hiro team’s finance expertise helped in launching the product. but it didn’t specify whether the entire feature was built by them.

To start, OpenAI says users can select “Get started” under the “Finances” option in the sidebar, or type “@Finances, connect my accounts” in a ChatGPT conversation. The chatbot then guides users through linking accounts through Plaid.

OpenAI says it plans to support Intuit soon as well, which would allow analysis such as the impact of a stock sale on taxes or the odds of a credit card approval.

OpenAI also framed the update as more than just account syncing.. It says more than 200 million users already ask financial questions to ChatGPT every month.. The company added that its new GPT-5.5 model is stronger at reasoning with context. which it says matters for finance-related answers. and that it worked with finance experts to create a benchmark for improving responses to personal finance questions.

With the finance tool integration, users can ask for more tailored outputs—such as “I feel like I’ve been spending more recently. Has anything changed?” or “Help me build a plan to be ready to buy a house in my area in the next 5 years.”

There’s also a path for users who want to cut the connection.. In Settings > Apps > Finances, they can remove connections to certain accounts.. Once a service is disconnected, the synced data will be removed from ChatGPT in 30 days.. Users can also view and delete financial memories from the Finances page.

The push toward specialized tools is increasingly visible across AI.. Generalized chatbots are designed to answer anything. but people sometimes turn them toward sensitive areas like health. finance. and personal life.. OpenAI and Anthropic have both launched health-related tools. and the article notes that earlier this month Perplexity launched its own financial research product based on its Computer agent.

OpenAI said the new personal finance tools will be available on ChatGPT on the web and on iOS for Pro users. The company said it plans to improve the product based on feedback from these users before rolling it out to Plus users.

The timeline is tight: a month after OpenAI bought the Hiro team. it now offers Pro users finance account connections through Plaid. supported by a model it says is stronger at reasoning with context and tuned with a benchmark created with finance experts—while also building a way to remove linked data and financial memories when users disconnect.

OpenAI’s latest move is still a preview, but it’s clearly aiming at a specific type of daily friction: not just asking about money, but pulling in account data, tracking recurring items, and planning ahead in the same place.
