Several communities in southern Ontario are set to deal with the first heat event of the season starting Monday afternoon, according to Environment Canada.
The federal weather agency issued a yellow heat warning covering regions including Toronto, Barrie, Chatham-Kent, Sarnia and Woodstock. Daytime highs are expected to reach near 30 degrees Celsius, but humid conditions are forecast to make those temperatures feel like 36 degrees Celsius.
Overnight lows are expected to fall to between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius. Environment Canada says the heat event will come to an end Tuesday night.
The warning also urged residents to take precautions, noting that extreme heat can affect everyone’s health.. In its notice. Environment Canada told people to determine whether they or others nearby are at greater risk of heat illness. and to check on older adults. those living alone and other at-risk people in person or by phone multiple times a day.
The agency also advised people to watch for early signs of heat exhaustion in themselves and others. It listed symptoms that may include headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst, dark urine and intense fatigue, adding that people should stop their activity and drink water.
Temperatures are forecast to return to more seasonal levels mid-week, Environment Canada’s outlook shows.
The timing and messaging are linked: the warning begins Monday afternoon with humid conditions pushing “feels like” temperatures to about 36 C. then tapers off after Tuesday night. while the guidance focuses on frequent checks for at-risk people and recognizing heat exhaustion symptoms during that window.

Yellow warning?? So like… don’t panic but also panic?
36C feels like and then overnight 18-20? That seems not even that bad compared to places south of us. Also is this for Toronto only or the whole province?
If they’re telling people to check on older adults multiple times a day, I feel like that’s not realistic for most people. Plus “dark urine”?? I thought that was like dehydration from not drinking coffee or something… but whatever, heat warning is heat warning.
Wait so it’s only a yellow warning? I saw a meme that said yellow means like “the sun is gonna win” lol. People are gonna ignore it anyway. Also I’m in Chatham-Kent and it’s already hot—feels like 36 sounds normal to me? Still gonna tell my dad to drink water I guess, even though he’ll argue it’s not that serious.
