Ohtani stars as Dodgers punish Angels’ errors

Ohtani stars – Shohei Ohtani drove in five runs as the Los Angeles Dodgers seized on Angels mistakes, breaking things open with a five-run sixth inning before adding late damage in an emphatic win.

Shohei Ohtani delivered when it mattered, and the Dodgers made the most of the Angels’ missteps to turn a tense game into a rout. The night shifted quickly after Los Angeles took control in the sixth inning, then kept pressure on through the final frames as Ohtani added big hits late.

Justin Wrobleski (6-1) settled in after an unscheduled bullpen game Friday following Blake Snell’s late scratch. allowing two runs in six innings to take pressure off the Dodgers’ pitching staff.. Snell will undergo surgery to remove loose bodies from his left elbow on Tuesday. and the expectation in Los Angeles is that the two-time Cy Young Award winner can return this season.

On the other side, José Soriano (6-3) ran into trouble, allowing six runs in 5 1/3 innings. Jo Adell provided a bright spot for the Angels with a two-run double, but the offense couldn’t get traction—Los Angeles finished the night by taking advantage as the Angels dropped their fifth straight game.

The Dodgers broke the game open in the sixth inning with five runs to end Soriano’s outing.. Andy Pages and Max Muncy drew bases-loaded walks. Teoscar Hernández was hit by a pitch from Chase Silseth to score another run. and Alex Call followed with a two-run single through the infield to left for the only hit of the rally. pushing the Dodgers to a 6-0 lead.

There were also key defensive moments from the Dodgers when the Angels threatened to respond.. Pages made a diving catch on a line drive to center field by Nolan Schanuel to end the fourth inning and stop the Angels from tying the game at 1.. Jorge Soler would have scored from third had Pages not reached out with his left glove hand to make the grab. earning a round of applause and a tip of the cap from Wrobleski.

Ohtani then put the finishing touches on the night.. He scored on his two-run triple in the eighth after Adell’s throwing error. and in the ninth he added a three-run double. drawing “MVP” chants from Dodgers fans in attendance.. The Dodgers’ momentum looked set to continue, especially with their next matchup lining up.

Dodgers RHP Roki Sasaki (1-3, 5.88 ERA) will try to get on track after struggling in a 9-3 loss to San Francisco on Monday. On the Angels side, Grayson Rodriguez will make his Angels debut, marking his first MLB appearance since July 31, 2024.
