Northwestern coach David Braun had a mic drop moment speaking about Colorado’s disrespect of his team’s fans.
Colorado football fell 41-7 in Evanston, Ill. to the Northwestern Wildcats in Week 3 action, leading to controversy afterward as players were caught talking trash about coach David Braun’s team’s home stadium and fans. Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders called the game a flat-out butt kicking while also giving props to Braun, whom he called “a wonderful man and coach.”
Braun spoke about the trash talk in press conference comments shared by Anna Watson of Daily NU Sports, offering his retort.
“There was a friend in the coaching profession that sent (the trash talking video) after the game, so I did get a chance to view it, and you know what, I’ll tell you what, it certainly didn’t sound like a library out there during the game. So, really, really proud of our fanbase and the Wild Side. Like I’ve said before, New Ryan Field is this opportunity to totally redefine how we do game day at Northwestern,” Braun added about the Wildcats’ new stadium, which is set to open on October 2 vs. Penn State.
Colorado’s offense was stonewalled one week after it blitzed Weber State for 53 points behind 366 yards passing from quarterback Julian Lewis, a performance that left Sanders wanting more. The Buffaloes’ run game and defense were strong in a Week 1 win at Georgia Tech, but didn’t travel as well as Sanders expected.
September 26 will bring different challenges for Colorado and Northwestern with the Buffaloes set to play Baylor in Waco, Texas and the Wildcats headed for Columbus to play Ryan Day’s Buckeyes.
Sanders knows Colorado has to play better, and it starts with a better performance against the Bears that he hopes will erase the sting of last week’s loss to Braun’s team.
