Noah Wyle’s Dr. Robby sprang into real first aid

Laëtitia Hollard says her elbow injury on The Pitt set turned into a real-life medical moment when costar Noah Wyle moved in with gauze and disinfectant—right out of his Dr. Robby mode.

Life on the set of HBO Max’s The Pitt has a way of blending fiction with reality. For Laëtitia Hollard, that became painfully clear when she injured herself mid-shoot and watched Noah Wyle react the way his on-screen character would—only this time, it was real.

Hollard, who plays nursing graduate Emma Nolan in the medical drama’s second season, described the incident during her appearance on Warner Bros. TV’s A Lot More podcast. She said the injury happened while filming the ninth episode of the season inside the show’s “control hub” on the main set.

The moment started with character work.. Hollard recalled that she enters “in Episode 1 with this notebook and all these things on me. ” and that in Episode 9. Katherine LaNasa’s Dana finally tells her. “Hey. you can go grab your notebook.” Hollard said she was “so excited” to get it—ready to use the tools her character brought with her.. But before her notebook run, she had to “squeeze past” Wyle’s attending physician, Dr.. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, to make it into position.

During each take, Hollard said she kept “bumping” her elbow “a little” as she moved past. She added that once the camera was about to focus on her for the shot, it triggered an adrenaline rush—something she described as repeating right up until she returned.

“So I bump [my elbow] again. and I go and I get that notebook. and when I come back… I see there’s like fake blood on the counter. ” Hollard said.. She described the reaction in plain disbelief. saying she “literally” asked. “Who left fake blood here?” Hollard said Wyle replied. “I think you nicked yourself.” She looked at her elbow and found it “covered with blood.”

In 2025, Wyle won an Emmy for his portrayal of Dr.. Robby on The Pitt, and in that same spirit, he was quick to act.. Hollard said Wyle told her. “Don’t worry. this is the best place for this to happen”… and then reminded her. “You have so many medical professionals. ” adding that he “became like Dr.. Robby.”

When Wyle administered first aid using “some gauze and disinfectant,” Hollard said it left her momentarily stunned—she felt like she was still inside the show. “Wait, I’m in the Pitt right now,” she remembered thinking.

Hollard also said Wyle broke from his performance when he noticed a real-life nurse passing by on set. She said he suggested they hand off because, in his words, he was “pretending.”

The dedication behind that approach has been part of Wyle’s public story as well.. Last year. he dedicated his Emmy win to health care workers. telling viewers in his acceptance speech: “To anyone who’s going on shift tonight or coming off shift tonight. thank you for being in that job.. This is for you.”

Hollard’s story keeps circling back to the same detail: the on-screen hustle of Episode 9’s notebook moment turned into a real injury. and Wyle’s established medical character instincts didn’t just look convincing—they showed up in real time. with gauze. disinfectant. and a quick pivot toward actual professionals when they were nearby.
