No evidence influencer is hantavirus “crisis actor”

hantavirus crisis – Social media posts alleged that Boston creator Jake Rosmarin was a “crisis actor” during a hantavirus outbreak on the MV Hondius, but no evidence supports it.
Social media users have cast doubt on a hantavirus outbreak aboard the MV Hondius by suggesting that one of its passengers, Boston travel content creator Jake Rosmarin, is a “crisis actor.”
The allegations. which circulated on X and other platforms. focused on Rosmarin’s decision to share emotionally framed updates while he quarantined at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.. In one May 6 X post. a video showed Rosmarin describing what he experienced aboard the ship. with the commenter alleging “they’re really working it with these crisis actors.” Other posts went further. claiming he had been “handpicked” because of connections to people in healthcare and emergency preparedness.. A separate line of reasoning pointed to Rosmarin urging people to get vaccinated during the COVID-19 pandemic. presenting it as proof his presence on the hantavirus cruise was coordinated.
But there is no evidence backing the claims that Rosmarin is part of any plot or that he is acting. When asked about the conspiracy posts, Rosmarin did not respond.
In a statement to the Daily Beast, Rosmarin rejected the idea, saying the accusations are not based on facts. “People are reacting just to react,” he said.
Rosmarin’s online timeline begins before the outbreak.
On April 1. before the MV Hondius departed from Argentina and before hantavirus was detected on board. Rosmarin posted on TikTok that he would spend the next 35 days on the ship.. Over the following days he uploaded multiple videos from the trip.. After the outbreak was publicly announced, he posted an update on May 3 confirming that he was aboard the affected cruise.. He shared another video the next day describing how he felt.
As quarantine plans shifted, Rosmarin continued to post.. On May 9. he said he would be sent to Nebraska for “quarantine and testing.” On May 11. he said he had arrived at the National Quarantine Unit in Omaha.. While the outbreak’s toll has been severe. his updates were consistent with his own stated account of where he was being held.
So far, three passengers have died from the virus, and by May 12, most passengers and crew members had returned home or were in the process of doing so. Rosmarin, meanwhile, continued posting videos showing what his day looks like at the quarantine facility.
The conspiratorial claim did not remain limited to his posts about the outbreak.. Some social media users also said a photograph of a man in a hospital bed was proof that Rosmarin was not truly a passenger.. The image. however. has a documented origin: the BBC published that photograph in 2022. and its accompanying article said it showed a COVID-19 patient named Henry Dyne from Surrey. England.
There have also been wider efforts on social media to suggest that Rosmarin is not the only person giving interviews.. While those posts speculated, reporters have interviewed other passengers as well.. Social media users pointed to Turkish YouTuber Ruhi Çenet. who posted on Instagram during the trip. including footage of the MV Hondius captain announcing that a man had died on the ship.. Rosmarin is not the only creator whose posts have attracted attention since the outbreak became public.
Rosmarin’s background as an influencer is also not unusual for what the internet often turns into evidence during emergencies.. He has over 160,000 TikTok followers and has posted travel photos, vlogs, brand partnerships content, and restaurant recommendations since at least 2022.. During the COVID-19 pandemic. he urged followers to get COVID-19 vaccines. but urging vaccinations is not. by itself. evidence of coordinated deception.
Nor does the fact that some of Rosmarin’s family members work in healthcare, emergency preparedness and disaster recovery substantiate the “crisis actor” theory.
In fast-moving crises, people often search for patterns even when information is incomplete.. Valerie Wirtschafter. a fellow in the Brookings Institution’s Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technology Initiative. said that when verified information is scarce. conspiracy narratives can fill the void.
“In these moments, the most important thing people can do is wait for verified information,” Wirtschafter said.
Claims that Rosmarin is a crisis actor were rated false, with PolitiFact Researcher Caryn Baird contributing to the assessment.. Rosmarin’s own accounts and reporting from major U.S.. outlets about the outbreak were also not found to question the veracity of his situation. including USA Today. ABC News and CNN. which have interviewed him about his experience as a passenger and during quarantine.
hantavirus outbreak MV Hondius Jake Rosmarin Omaha quarantine misinformation
once a covid vax pusher always a crisis actor sorry not sorry
I dont know who this guy is but why would someone just randomly be on a cruise that gets hantavirus like that is so suspicious to me. my cousin said the same thing when she saw it on facebook. stuff like this doesnt just happen to influencers for no reason.
people keep saying crisis actor like they know what that even means lol. hantavirus is real I had a neighbor who got something similar back in like 2019 or maybe 2018 and it was bad, totally real disease. but also I get why people are suspicious because the timing does seem weird when you think about it. he posted on april 1st which is literally april fools day so I mean come on. im not saying hes lying but I am saying the whole thing feels off and the media just telling us to trust it doesnt help either.
Wait so hantavirus is back now?? I thought we dealt with this already like years ago. Is this connected to covid somehow because I feel like all these outbreaks keep happening right after each other and nobody in the news ever asks why. Also Nebraska seems like a random place to send someone from Boston for treatment just saying. Anyway I hope the guy is okay even if some people think hes faking it, being sick is no joke and hantavirus can actually kill you I looked it up once. Just tired of everything becoming a whole conspiracy thing every five seconds, people need to calm down but also the government hasnt exactly been honest with us so I understand why people dont trust stuff anymore. Its complicated.
