When Heidi Broussard told her long-distance best friend Magen Fieramusca that she was expecting again. the news was met with the kind of excitement that usually comes with shared timelines and baby-pic updates.. Both women—friends who were churchgoing and rooted in Austin—watched their pregnancies unfold together.. Magen even made the trip from Houston to Austin to be by Heidi’s side when Heidi gave birth.
Two weeks after Heidi’s baby arrived, the friendship turned into something else entirely. Heidi and her newborn disappeared, and a nationwide search began. Police went back to Heidi’s last known whereabouts. The case narrowed when a neighbor said Heidi got into Magen’s car on the day she vanished.
What investigators uncovered pointed to a plan that started with deception.. On Dec.. 12, 2019, Heidi and her 2-week-old newborn, Margot, disappeared after dropping her eldest child off at school.. After a weeklong search, authorities found Heidi’s body in the trunk of Magen’s car.. Investigators also determined that Heidi had been strangled to death.
Margot, however, was not gone.. Authorities found Heidi’s baby alive and well inside Magen’s Houston home, and promptly returned her to her family.. The discovery didn’t close the case so much as sharpen it.. Magen was arrested and charged with two counts of kidnapping and one count of tampering with a corpse. then later with capital murder.
A key part of the story is how the pregnancy itself was staged. Magen had faked her pregnancy with the intention of stealing Margot and passing the child off as her own.
