Neil Patrick Harris to Lead ‘Damn Yankees’ Broadway Revival with Julianne Hough & Austin Scott | Just Jared
Neil Patrick Harris is returning to Broadway in spring 2027!
The 53-year-old Tony Award-winning actor will be starring in the upcoming revival of the musical Damn Yankees, and he’ll be joined by Julianne Hough and Austin Scott, who are both also returning to the Great White Way.
The big news was announced on Sunday (September 27), with the three stars making an appearance at Yankee Stadium for the announcement.
The MLB and it’s Emmy-winning MLB Studios are also joining the production as a partner!
What is Damn Yankees about?
The Tony-winning musical first debuted on Broadway in 1955, featuring a book by George Abbott and Douglass Wallop, with music and lyrics by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross.
The upcoming production will be a newly adapted production by Will Power and Doug Wright, with additional lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, and marks the first Broadway revival of the show in over 30 years!
Here’s a synopsis: It’s the early 2000s, and diehard baseball fan Joe Boyd dreams of seeing his beloved Baltimore Orioles return to glory. So when a charming stranger and his captivating accomplice arrive with an offer too good to refuse, Joe makes a deal that could give both him and his team a second chance. There’s just one catch…
Sergio Trujillo will direct and choreograph.
In the upcoming Broadway revival, Neil will star as Applegate, Julianne will play Lola, and Austin will play Young Joe.
Neil is, of course, far from a stranger on the Broadway stage, having starred in numerous productions throughout his career, including in Proof, Cabaret, Assassins, Peter Pan Goes Wrong, and Art. He also starred in the 2024 production of Hedwig and the Angry Itch, which was its Broadway debut, for which he won the Tony award for Best Actor in a Musical that same year.
This will mark Julianne‘s second Broadway show, but her first Broadway musical. She previously starred in the play POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive in 2022.
Austin is also no stranger to Broadway, having starred in Hamilton, Girl from the North Country, and & Juliet.
Damn Yankees will perform at the Marquis Theatre with previews beginning Wednesday, March 24, 2027. The opening night is set for Tuesday, April 20th.
