Cyan Worlds is bringing updated Myst and Riven remakes to PS5, Xbox Series X|S and the Microsoft Store, with VR support and enhanced visuals.
A pair of classic adventure games is set to return with modern upgrades: Cyan Worlds is releasing the remakes of Myst and Riven for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and the Microsoft Store.
For players with PlayStation 5. both titles will be available in a traditional 2D mode and in virtual reality through PS VR2.. Misryoum notes that the flatscreen versions include visual enhancements such as ray-traced reflections. while a Performance Mode aims to lift the experience to smoother frame rates by adjusting certain graphical features.
In addition, Misryoum reports support for PlayStation’s Power Saver Mode, along with “PS5 Pro Enhanced” options for owners of Sony’s more powerful console.
On Xbox Series X|S, Riven carries forward improvements that were built into Cyan Worlds’ earlier Myst remake effort.. It supports Xbox Play Anywhere. includes ray-traced reflections. and also offers a Performance Mode similar in spirit to the PS5 approach.. Misryoum also highlights that on supported displays, Xbox players can enjoy 4K output and HDR.
Why it matters: Remakes like these aren’t just about bringing old worlds forward. By layering in VR compatibility, modern lighting, and performance options, Misryoum says the developer is effectively widening the audience for games that originally lived in a very different era of hardware.
Cyan Worlds has been revisiting Myst and Riven over multiple releases and platforms.. The modernization push began in earnest in 2020. when Myst launched for Meta’s Quest headsets. followed by a non-VR version for PC and Mac in 2021 and an iOS release in 2023.. Work on Riven’s remake more recently started with releases for PC, Mac and Quest.
The Myst and Riven remakes are scheduled to be available for $35 each on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and the Microsoft Store on May 19. Myst on Xbox Series X|S is already available, ahead of the broader rollout.
Insight at the end: For players deciding where to jump in, Misryoum suggests the biggest differentiator will be your preferred platform and display setup, since VR support and performance settings can meaningfully change how these restored environments feel in motion.
