Metropolitan Iob Receives Bachelor of Theology Degree

The Georgian Patriarchate has officially recognized Metropolitan Iob's education, awarding him a Bachelor of Theology degree after a formal review process.
A significant academic recognition has been granted to Metropolitan Iob, as the Georgian Patriarchate officially confirmed the validation of his theological education.
Following a formal request submitted by the Metropolitan of Ruisi and Urbnisi, Iob Akiashvili, the Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary initiated a comprehensive review of his academic history.. The process began in April 2026 after the Metropolitan sought a formal copy of his diploma based on his studies at the Mtskheta Theological Seminary.
This development is noteworthy as it highlights the formalization and institutional verification of long-standing ecclesiastical education within the church’s administrative framework.
To address the request, the Academy conducted an extensive search through the Patriarchate’s archives. The investigation required the compilation of historical records and evidence to verify the Metropolitan’s completion of his coursework.
Following the gathering of necessary documents, the case was presented to the commission responsible for awarding bachelor’s degrees. This body, operating under specific institutional mandates established by Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II, reviewed all available testimonies and scholarly evidence.
On May 5th, during a formal session, the commission reached a final decision regarding the matter. They officially recognized the education received by Metropolitan Iob, concluding that his qualifications met the required standards for higher academic accreditation.
Consequently, the commission conferred upon him the academic degree of Bachelor of Theology. This decision marks the conclusion of the internal inquiry and solidifies the Metropolitan’s formal standing within the academic record of the institution.
Institutional processes like this are essential for maintaining rigorous standards and ensuring that historical educational achievements are formally documented within current regulatory requirements.
