Melania Gives AI ‘Gifts’ To Elementary Students – Just Days After Frightening AI Warnings

First lady Melania Trump visited a North Carolina school on Tuesday to surprise students with AI subscriptions as the Trump administration calls the panic over artificial intelligence a “hoax.”

Trump visited Mountain View Elementary School in Jefferson, North Carolina, and announced that as part of her anti-cyberbullying “Be Best” initiative, she would gift 1,500 students in Ashe County subscriptions to the AI learning platform StudyFetch and give some schools Jetson Nano Developer Kits, small computers that run AI models.

“Dream big and use these AI tools to build something never created before,” she said Tuesday to the school’s students and staff. “Maybe one of you will create the next robot. And if you do, make sure you bring it into the White House to show me.”

A few other Anthropic employees responded to Coxon’s post on X, amplifying his message and saying there is more than a 10% chance the technology could “kill all humans.”

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has also sounded the alarm, saying that AI leaders are “not preparing” for the new era.

Even with top tech leaders voicing their concerns, President Donald Trump is not interested in regulating AI.

House Speaker Mike Johnson echoed those claims, saying Tuesday that slowing down the development of AI would only let China win the AI race, which would have “serious national security implications for every American family.”
