The May 17 Academy of Country Music Awards already had plenty of momentum—right up until Megan Moroney didn’t show up.
Weeks before the Cloud 9 Tour begins. the “Am I Okay?” artist walked into a headline moment back home and then vanished from the spotlight at the awards show itself.. Country fans noticed immediately. especially since Moroney wasn’t just nominated—she was the most nominated artist of the night with nine total nominations.
Moroney was up for Entertainer of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Single of the Year, Visual Media of the Year, and Artist-Songwriter of the Year, among other categories. Yet when the 2026 ACMs rolled around, she was absent.
In an Instagram Stories message posted on May 17, Moroney made the reason plain: she is out of the country for her best friend’s wedding. She’s not simply attending—she said she’s there on “MOH duty,” writing that she is the maid of honor.
“I’m honored to be nominated tonight at @acmawards & I’m rooting on all my friends from afar!” Moroney wrote.. She added. “I’m out of the country this week on MOH duty to get my best friend married.” She also told fans she would be there for them later. saying. “I [heart] you guys and can’t wait to see y’all in Columbus!. Counting down the days.”
At the end of her note, she repeated the message in the same warm tone—“i [love] you guys & can’t wait to see y’all in columbus!” and “counting down the days :)”
The wedding explains the absence. but it also highlights the surprise for viewers who were already counting on Moroney’s presence at the show.. This wasn’t her first time in the ACM conversation. either: she previously won New Female Artist of the Year in 2023 and has been nominated for multiple categories in recent years.
As for the 2026 ceremony itself, Moroney did not win any awards this time, despite the nine nominations.. She may have missed the night in person. but in her own words. she was choosing the role she’s stepping into at home—maid of honor—while rooting from afar in the one place she couldn’t be: the venue in May.
