The Toronto Maple Leafs announced they have mutually agreed to part ways with assistant general manager Brandon Pridham and assistant general manager of player personnel Derek Clancey, as the organization continues reshaping its front office under John Chayka

TORONTO – The Toronto Maple Leafs have made another adjustment to their front office, agreeing to part ways with assistant general manager Brandon Pridham and assistant general manager of player personnel Derek Clancey.

The team announced Sunday that it has “mutually agreed to part ways” with Pridham. It also said Clancey is out of his post.

Those changes have arrived amid a broader reshuffle that began after the Leafs hired general manager John Chayka and senior executive adviser of hockey operations Mats Sundin. The organization has also already fired former head coach Craig Berube on Wednesday.

The timing matters because the results on the ice have followed a steep fall. Toronto went from being Atlantic Division champions in 2024-25 to finishing last this season, with a 30-point dropoff. Even with that collapse, the Leafs still hold the first overall pick in the upcoming NHL draft in June.

The sequence is tight: the Leafs hired new hockey leadership. then moved to fire coach Craig Berube on Wednesday. and Sunday’s announcement followed by removing assistant general manager Brandon Pridham and assistant general manager of player personnel Derek Clancey—while the standings picture already shows how quickly the team fell from 2024-25 success to last place this season.

As of now, the Leafs’ rebuilding plans continue with major personnel moves and a key asset intact: the team’s first overall pick for the June NHL draft.

  1. I swear every year they “reshape” the front office and then act shocked they’re trash. If it’s the GM and adviser fault, why is it always assistant guys getting dropped.

  2. Mutually agreed is such a weird phrase like nobody wanted to do it lol. Also they fired the coach (Berube) and then these two, but the headline didn’t say anything about the players. Maybe they’re tanking for that first overall pick again? Not even sure.

  3. This is exactly why I don’t trust Chayka era moves. They went from Atlantic champions to last place and now they’re cutting staff like it’s a game-day lineup. Draft pick doesn’t fix defense though, does it? I guess Sundin knows something… or he just has a fancy job title.
