Man Utd set to confirm Carrick as manager

A deal is nearing confirmation as Manchester United moves to keep Michael Carrick after a sequence of wins, mounting support inside the dressing room, and a timeline that had been pointing toward this outcome since his appointment on 13 January.
A deal that had been hovering in the background since 25 January is now close to becoming official at Manchester United.. Twelve days after Michael Carrick was appointed as the replacement for Ruben Amorim. with the former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer already out of the picture. the club’s path appears to have narrowed toward Carrick taking the vacant manager role.
Carrick’s rise wasn’t built on a single result.. He had already beaten Manchester City, even if Amorim, Solskjaer and others had done that as well.. The shift at Old Trafford looked more pronounced when United beat Arsenal at Emirates Stadium through Matheus Cunha’s late goal. the first sign that Carrick might be bringing something more substantial with him.
For the next three months, Carrick deflected questions about his future—whether he wanted the job, whether he had spoken to the hierarchy about it, whether he was involved in recruitment meetings, and whether it mattered to potential signings that the manager for next season was not yet known.
That uncertainty sat alongside a series of candidates being cut off.. Thomas Tuchel signed a contract extension with the Football Association.. Carlo Ancelotti moved toward doing the same with Brazil, which is now done.. PSG also made it known they were well down the road of agreeing a new deal with Luis Enrique.. Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner. another name mentioned in the mix. became entangled in a dispute with the ownership of the London club that appeared to be moving toward an exit.. Palace had already been beaten by non-league Macclesfield in the FA Cup.
All the while, Carrick kept winning. The team started with four consecutive wins, then won six of seven matches, before suffering their first defeat at Newcastle. The club’s hierarchy placed blame for that loss on the players rather than on the man in the dugout.
The pressure points sharpened further around two specific moments.. United’s home defeat by Leeds on 13 April was treated as Carrick’s responsibility. with his selection featuring Manuel Ugarte when Kobbie Mainoo was ruled out through injury.. Yet United’s response came quickly. with three successive wins against rivals for a Champions League spot—Chelsea. Brentford and Liverpool—used to answer questions about Carrick’s suitability.
By now, the push to keep him was no longer abstract.. Key figures in the dressing room began calling for Carrick to stay. starting with Amad Diallo during the April training camp in Dublin. and followed by Bruno Fernandes. Kobbie Mainoo. Cunha. Mason Mount. Senne Lammens and Casemiro.. The club’s internal argument was that the risk of moving on had grown larger than the risk of staying.
The storyline tightens when the timeline is lined up: Carrick’s appointment came 12 days before the January 25 “possible outcome. ” he carried a run of results through four straight wins and six of seven. one defeat at Newcastle was pinned on the players. and the later Leeds loss on 13 April was linked to a starting decision—after which three straight wins against Chelsea. Brentford and Liverpool reinforced the case for him as the answer.
With that accumulation of results and support, ditching Carrick has become a bigger risk than keeping him, and United will shortly confirm he has the job.
