Man held after €360k drugs seized in Mayo car stop

A man has been arrested after gardai seized €360,000 worth of suspected illegal drugs following the search of a car in Co Mayo . Gardai from the Mayo Roscommon Longford Divisional Drugs Unit stopped and searched the car on Monday evening, May 18, while on patrol. During the course of the search, 18kg of suspected illegal cannabis with a value of around €360,000 was seized. The man, in his 40s, was arrested in connection with the incident. He is currently detained under Section 2 of
the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996, at a Garda Station in the North Western Region. The drugs seized are subject to further analysis and investigations are ongoing. This seizure forms part of Operation Tara, an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy, which was launched by the Garda Commissioner in July 2021. The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels – international, national, local – involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled
