A Lifetime Promise: The Love Story of Mahawa and Emmanuel Adarkwah

Discover the heartfelt journey of Mahawa and Emmanuel Adarkwah, whose bond began with a simple photograph and blossomed into a beautiful wedding celebration.
Love stories often begin in unexpected ways and for Mahawa Watta Konneh Adarkwah and her husband Emmanuel Adarkwah, theirs started with something simple, yet powerful: trust.. Emmanuel, who is from Ghana, had made up his mind he was ready to settle down.. But he was sure about one thing: he did not want to marry just anyone.. Instead, he turned to someone he trusted deeply, his younger sister.. For over 11 years, Mahawa had been
close to Emmanuel’s family.. She wasn’t a stranger; she was already known, respected, and loved.. So when Emmanuel said he was ready to get married, his sister knew exactly who to show him.. She sent him Mahawa’s picture.. That moment changed everything.. After seeing her picture, Emmanuel got Mahawa’s number from his sister and called her.. To break the ice and get over the awkwardness of the first phone call, they just had a casual
conversation to get to know each other.. A First Meeting to Remember When they finally met, Emmanuel was very direct.. He didn’t wait to propose later; instead, at that very first meeting, he told her plainly that he intended to marry her.. He said, ‘I want to marry you.. I don’t want us to just be in love, I want us to build a life together,” Mahawa recalls.. From that day, their journey began.. Even
though they already knew about each other, their first physical meeting as a couple is still one of Mahawa’s favorite memories.. ‘The first day we saw each other at my place was one of the happiest moments of my life,’ she says.. That moment marked the beginning of a bond that would soon lead to marriage.. A Journey Sealed in Love Their relationship quickly grew from conversations into a real commitment, and soon, wedding plans
were underway.. On February 5th, 2026, the couple had their traditional engagement ceremony, following Sierra Leonean customs.. Just two days later, on February 7th, 2026, they finished their union with a beautiful white wedding.. Their church wedding took place at Balmer Memorial Methodist Church on John Street, followed by a colorful reception at the FSS School Hall, where friends, family, and loved ones gathered to celebrate.. With a guest list of about 250 people, the
day was filled with joy, laughter, and memories they will never forget.. Culture, Style & Wedding Details While Emmanuel stayed behind the scenes because he is a shy person, Mahawa proudly showed off her roots.. “As a Mende woman, I made sure to represent my culture through our traditional cloth,” she shares.. The couple’s wedding colors lime green and purple made the celebration look bright and beautiful.. Their theme, “The Adarkwahs 2026: From a Glance
to a Lifetime,” perfectly described their journey from a simple introduction to a life-long promise.. Now three months into marriage, Mahawa is full of thanks.. “Thank God, everything went well.. We are together now,” she says with joy.. Advice to Couples Planning Their Wedding Mahawa also has a heartfelt message for couples preparing to walk down the aisle: “Set your budget first.. Meet your vendors early and know exactly what everything will cost.. And most
importantly—do not spend more than you have.” She says that money pressure can cause a lot of stress, even after the wedding is over.. “There is no award for the ‘best wedding.’ Do what you can afford.. Don’t allow pressure to push you into things you can’t reach.” Her advice is simple: Stay within your reach, Avoid unnecessary pressure, Focus on what truly matters—the marriage, not just the wedding.. Mahawa and Emmanuel’s story reminds us
that love does not always start with big gestures.. Sometimes, it starts with a simple picture, a real plan, and a shared dream for the future.. From a single glance… to a lifetime together.. Family, Friends & Trusted Vendors One of the most special things about their wedding was how much it involved their community.. Rather than hiring strangers, Mahawa used the people closest to her: Dressmaker: ZainBOS Designs Cake: Bengette Cakes Catering: Mafia Kitchen
