LG UltraGear 45GX950B: OLED gaming monitor hits 330Hz

UltraGear 45GX950B – LG’s new 45-inch UltraGear OLED keeps the same 5K2K performance, adding AI Upscaling, Scene Optimization, and AI Sound.

LG’s latest UltraGear OLED gaming monitor is the kind of upgrade that feels more like a refined feature pack than a full redesign.

The UltraGear 45GX950B builds on last year’s 45GX950A, keeping the same 45-inch ultrawide OLED setup and core performance profile. That includes the 5K2K (5120 x 2160) resolution, 800R curvature, and a matte anti-glare coating, designed to deliver a wide, immersive view for gaming and media.

The headline spec remains a big draw for competitive players: the monitor carries support for up to 330Hz in a dual-mode setup. paired with an unchanged native refresh rate of 165Hz.. LG positions the panel within its 45-inch OLED gaming lineup. and the monitor also retains features aimed at fast motion and strong HDR contrast. including VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black certification.

In this update, the most noticeable changes are tied to AI. LG adds AI Upscaling, AI Scene Optimization, and AI Sound, aiming to improve picture clarity, adjust settings based on what is on screen, and enhance audio by separating dialogue, effects, and background elements.

That said, “AI features” are rarely about raw hardware transformation. Often, their usefulness depends on the content you play and how well the processing matches your typical use, which is why the real-world impact can vary.

On the display quality side. the spec sheet stays tightly aligned with the prior model: 3rd Gen WOLED technology. fast response timing. and wide color coverage for HDR and color-accurate workloads.. Even the HDR capability remains framed around strong small-highlight brightness, rather than a dramatic leap in peak output.

There is also a small but important practical trade-off: the built-in speakers are downgraded from 10W to 7W. Connectivity, however, continues to look well-equipped for a modern desk, with DisplayPort 2.1, HDMI 2.1, USB-C with power delivery, and multiple USB ports.

For buyers. the decision likely comes down to whether you want the earlier model’s essentially identical core performance or the added AI processing in the newer 45GX950B.. If prices land close. the B model reads as the more convenient pick; if you already own the A model. there may be little incentive beyond trying LG’s updated feature set.

In the end. the UltraGear 45GX950B reflects a broader display trend: manufacturers are increasingly differentiating via software and AI-assisted modes while keeping panel hardware stable.. That approach can benefit newcomers who want extra features. but it also means existing owners should temper expectations about what “new” changes in day-to-day gameplay.
