Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel roasts Donald Trump over ‘Unites States’ typo in new AI agreement with joke about his spelling

Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel used his monologue on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to mock a misspelling of the country’s name beneath President Donald Trump‘s signature on a new artificial intelligence agreement. Kimmel said the error summed up the presidency.

Kimmel first criticized the approach behind the agreement. He said some tech CEOs “have actually asked the government, ‘please help regulate us, put up guardrails so we don’t wind up exterminating human life.’” He added, “But Trump doesn’t want that. He wants the AI companies to self-police.”

He then turned to a film comparison. “Like remember how in the Terminator movies the Terminator stopped when they asked him politely to stop terminating? That’s what he wants. This is like asking your kids to self-police their Halloween candy. It doesn’t work.”

Kimmel saved the typo for last. “This, by the way, tells you all you need to know,” he told his audience. “At the luncheon, Trump signed what he calls the White House accord on super intelligence. And look at the signature. Donald J. Trump, President of the United States.” In the on-screen graphic, the word appeared as “Unites.”

“Could there ever be a better metaphor for this presidency than misspelling United States on a document about super intelligence?” he asked. “There’s nothing these people can’t screw up.”

What the document says and where the error appears

The signature page of the “White House Accord on Super Intelligence” reads “President of the Unites States” beneath Trump’s name. The document is also titled the “Joint Commitment on Frontier Responsibilities.” Trump signed it on September 29 alongside six technology leaders.

The signatories were Sundar Pichai of Google, Dario Amodei of Anthropic, Mark Zuckerberg of Meta, Greg Brockman of OpenAI, Elon Musk of xAI and Jensen Huang of Nvidia.

Trump posted the signed page on Truth Social and the White House later shared it from its official account on X. The misspelling was genuine and not a doctored image. It said the error appeared on the version published by the White House itself.

It remains unclear how the error got into the document. The paper added that it is not known whether the text will appear the same way in the Federal Register.

Other critics piled on

Kimmel was not the only one to notice. California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a frequent Trump critic, posted screenshots of the accord on X with the caption, “The Golden Age of ‘Super Intelligence.’”

Former Republican congressman Justin Amash quoted the post with caption “President of the Unites States.”

The executive order behind the new name

Alongside the accord, Trump signed an executive order titled “Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence.” It directs federal agencies to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in place of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI.”

The order says the new wording “more appropriately captures the promise, potential and rapidly advancing capabilities of these technologies.”

Trump said he was making the change “because it’s not artificial.” The same outlet noted that he had earlier polled his Truth Social followers on alternatives, including “Superior Intelligence,” “Extreme Intelligence” and “Supreme Intelligence.”
