Lamar Jackson’s No. 7 Retired, Street Named Boynton

Lamar Jackson’s – Lamar Jackson returned to Boynton Beach High School on Friday as his No. 7 jersey was retired and the street outside campus was renamed “Lamar Jackson Way,” with the speed limit set to seven miles per hour.

Lamar Jackson walked back into the Florida school where he first became a national standout, and this time the crowd came ready for something more than celebration.

On Friday, Boynton Beach High School officially retired Jackson’s No.. 7 jersey and renamed the street outside campus “Lamar Jackson Way.” City officials went a step further. adjusting the speed limit on the newly named road to seven miles per hour—an unmistakable tribute tied directly to the number Jackson wore.

Jackson was honored in a ceremony that included former teammates, community members and school officials. Boynton Beach head coach Tre Smith, who is also a former teammate of Jackson, called the moment “a great moment in Boynton Beach community history” as he announced the jersey retirement.

Before the two-time NFL MVP became the face of the Baltimore Ravens. Jackson turned heads as one of Florida’s most electrifying high school players under head coach Rick Swain.. During that stretch, he was ranked as the No.. 8 dual-threat quarterback nationally and the No.. 31 overall player in Florida, according to 247Sports.. Jackson’s rise continued at the University of Louisville, where he won the 2016 Heisman Trophy, the Davey O’Brien Award, the Maxwell Award and ACC Player of the Year honors. Louisville later retired his No. 8 jersey in 2021.

Back in Boynton Beach, the message was clear: the hometown milestone is here to stay, down to the speed limit set for “Lamar Jackson Way.”
