Kylie Minogue Names Hutchence Her Life’s Love

Kylie Minogue has rarely gone deep on her love life, but in a new, unusually candid Netflix era she’s made room for the names that still linger.

In a Saturday. May 16 interview with The Sunday Times. the 57-year-old confirmed her former INXS marriage to Michael Hutchence remains the defining romance of her life.. “Yes. probably. ” Minogue said when asked about Hutchence. calling him “the love of her life.” She added that while their relationship—or their relationship “at the time”—was “not for that long. ” it still “had a profound effect” on her.

Minogue and Hutchence were married from 1989 to 1991. In 1997, Hutchence died by suicide. Speaking about what he taught her, Minogue said Hutchence taught her to be “still,” to be “true to herself,” and that he was always “respectful” of her art as a singer.

She also opened up about Jason Donovan, her Neighbours co-star whom she dated for three years starting in 1986.. Minogue said the two remain good friends. telling The Sunday Times: “Yeah. yeah. we are.” She described how the connection still shows up in small. personal ways—saying she’s texted Donovan while looking through old photos and video footage of their time together.. “I told him he better start collecting things for his doc,” she said.

Minogue tied their real-life bond to the romance that played out onscreen. “We fancied each other. The love story in the show came first and then it became a real thing.”

The timing of these rare remarks lands alongside Minogue’s new Netflix, three-part documentary Kylie. In episode two, she discusses the impact Hutchence has on her, and she said she begins to cry during the moment. “You could hear a pin drop,” Minogue told The Sunday Times.

That emotional beat comes with its own pressure for Minogue. who said she’s been working through both excitement and anxiety about the public release.. “I’m like, I know I’m going to cry at some point in this goddamn documentary,” Minogue said.. “When’s the point going to be?. But I also knew that I was holding on to a lot of stuff.”

Even with the story already told on camera. she admitted nerves about what it means to share so much at once.. “I have such a knot of excitement and nerves,” Minogue told the outlet.. “There was so much to get through.. How the hell do you tell the story?. I’ve been asked by so many people to do a documentary in the past. but I’ve never done anything like this before.”
