Kyle Schwarber powers Phillies past Red Sox 3-1

Kyle Schwarber hit the Phillies’ major league-leading 18th homer, breaking a scoreless tie in the eighth as Philadelphia beat Boston 3-1.
BOSTON — The game’s silence lasted just long enough for Kyle Schwarber to puncture it.
Schwarber hit his major league-leading 18th home run, a two-run shot that broke a scoreless tie in the eighth inning, and the Philadelphia Phillies held on for a 3-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night.
It was another loud sign of momentum for the Phillies’ slugger.. Schwarber has seven home runs in his last seven games. the first Phillies player to reach at least that many in a similar span since Trea Turner did it in 2023.. His towering drive cleared the visiting bullpen in right field and traveled an estimated 417 feet.
Bryson Stott added an insurance run later in the eighth after an infield hit was initially called out. The call was overturned when the Phillies challenged.
On the mound, Brad Keller (2-1) worked a clean relief inning to earn the win, striking out two. Jhoan Duran then finished the job in the ninth, fanning the side for his seventh save.
Boston’s only run came in the eighth when Wilyer Abreu delivered an RBI single.
The Red Sox had been closing out a homestand in which they dropped two of three games against Tampa Bay and Philadelphia.
Schwarber also ended a streak from the other side of the matchup. Boston reliever Tyler Samaniego (0-1) had not allowed a homer in his first 13 major league games, spanning 15 innings, before Schwarber took him deep. Schwarber struck out three times in the game.
Neither starter factored into the final decision.. Boston’s Ranger Suarez tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings and struck out eight. while Philadelphia’s Jesus Luzardo held the Red Sox to four straight outs in six scoreless innings. adding four strikeouts.. In his previous start, Luzardo was tagged for six runs in just three innings.
The opening of the game was pushed back by 22 minutes due to rain.
Up next, the Phillies travel to Pittsburgh for a three-game series that begins Friday night. Aaron Nola (2-3, 5.14) is scheduled to face Pirates right-hander Braxton Ashcraft (2-2, 2.77).
For Boston, it opens a three-game series in Atlanta on Friday. Connelly Early (3-2, 3.16) is set to start against Braves right-hander Spencer Strider (1-0, 2.89).

red sox cant do nothing right this season lol
wait he struck out THREE times and still won the game for them?? that doesnt even make sense to me honestly. like how do you strike out that many times and then just hit a home run like nothing happened. baseball is so weird sometimes i swear.
I thought Schwarber was still on the Cubs this whole time I didnt even know he was on the Phillies now. when did that trade happen. anyway Boston has been struggling all year its not surprising they lost, their pitching staff has been a disaster since like last summer and they never fixed it in the offseason. I remember people saying they needed a real closer and nobody listened and now look. not shocked at all by this result honestly.
ok but can we talk about how they delayed the game for rain and then Schwarber goes and hits a 400 foot bomb like the rain actually woke him up or something. seven homers in seven games is absolutely insane I dont care what anybody says. my husband keeps telling me the Phillies are gonna collapse by July but I been saying all along this team is different this year and stuff like this is exactly why. also Aaron Nola needs to figure it out before Pittsburgh that ERA is not it.
