Kevin Bacon didn’t just turn the camera on himself for a laugh—he used the moment to show off what he’s kept for decades: a lean physique and a visible six-pack.

While filming a video for Instagram. the 68-year-old joked. “If you take an actor’s shirt off. chances are he’s wearing a wire. ” before casually revealing his stomach as part of the bit.. It was the kind of self-aware moment that fits how he says he approaches fitness overall: fast. intense. and done without lingering too long.

Bacon’s workouts. he says. are typically short. sharp. and efficient—built to get as much work done in as little time as possible.. “I hike, I lift weights, I do calisthenics,” he said.. “Sometimes I work with a trainer.. I don’t work out for long periods of time because I’m just too bored by it.. High-intensity, short periods of time are much more beneficial for me.”

That preference has kept following him into his sixties.. While filming the 2025 series The Bondsman, he said he even asked for a gym to be built on set.. The setup, he revealed in a satirical Instagram video, wasn’t a luxury facility.. It came down to three pieces of equipment: “two dumbbells and a kettlebell.”

Bacon linked the need to the realities of production.. “You spend a lot of time on set if you’re doing a TV show or film – 12 hours is usually the minimum. ” he said.. “So it’s very hard to stay in shape. and there’s a lot of free food. which doesn’t help.” He also described how seeing actors with “incredible bodies” can sharpen his own focus. adding. “I really wish I had a gym on set.”

He then explained what he asked for on this particular project.. “So this time I said to them that I’ve done well and I think I need to stay in shape. so please build me a gym. ” Bacon added—before pointing out the weights that made up the gym itself.. In his telling, the bare-bones approach aligned with his larger rule: intensity without overcomplicating it.

Minimalism, in fact, shows up again when Bacon talks about where he trains off set. Speaking in 2025, he described how losing a large amount of money in Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme still follows him—and how it shapes his motivation in a gym he calls “very bare-bones.”

“I go to this gym.. It has a few machines and only a handful of people there at any given time.. There are no showers; it’s very bare-bones.. But there’s a leg-press machine.. A leg press can be brutal.. The machine is right next to a window. and when I look out that window. I’m looking right at the building where Madoff was. ” Bacon said.. “I’m in excruciating pain, doing the leg press, staring out that window.. It’s perfect, in a funny way, because I also have to think, ‘I can get through this’.”

The pattern is consistent across his fitness descriptions: when workouts are short and high-intensity. he keeps them manageable; when filming schedules stretch to “12 hours” and food piles up. he asks for a “gym on set. ” even if it’s only “two dumbbells and a kettlebell”; and when a leg-press session becomes “excruciating pain. ” the window view turns that discomfort into something he can push through.

In the end, Bacon’s message is less about complicated systems and more about sticking to what he’ll actually do—whether that means hiking, lifting weights, calisthenics, or squeezing in training wherever he can, even if it’s built from just a few basic tools.
