Kankakee forfeits Lincoln-Way West win due to ineligible player, placed on probation by IHSA

Kankakee has forfeited a win against Lincoln-Way West on Sept. 18 for using an ineligible player. The Illinois High School Association placed the Kays on probation for the rest of the season.

The Kays, ranked No. 20 in the Super 25, beat Lincoln-Way West 28-14 in the game. Kankakee AD Chris Pickett did not respond to a request for comment.

Lincoln-Way West and Kankakee are both 4-2 after the change.

“We recognize that eligibility mistakes can and do occur, and we appreciate Kankakee High School being forthcoming in not only reporting the violation but also presenting a plan to remedy this situation from occurring again in the future,” IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson said in a statement. “The school’s football program was also placed on probation by the IHSA for the remainder of the season. Probation does not deny the school or program any IHSA privileges, but it does set the expectation that any further violations could result in more serious consequences.”
