Kai Trump says she’s gone home ‘every single weekend’ since starting college: ‘It’s just like vacation’

President Donald Trump‘s granddaughter Kai Trump says she hasn’t spent a single weekend at college since beginning her freshman year at the University of Miami in August.

Kai, 19, said she’s instead been making the 80-minute trip home to Jupiter, Fla., every weekend — a routine that’s prompted questions from some critics about her Secret Service protection and its cost to taxpayers.

“I’ve been at home every single weekend,” Kai said in a September 26 YouTube vlog in which she answered questions about her first weeks of college.

Kai’s close friend and fellow University of Miami freshman Bella Contacessa joined her for the Q&A and said she frequently makes the trip home with the president’s granddaughter.

“She’ll text me. She’ll be like, ‘Do you want to go home?’ I’m like, ‘Let’s go.’ So we’ll leave at like … 11 at night, and we’ll go home,” Bella said.

“It’s so close. Only an hour and 20 minutes away. It makes sense. It’s like, especially the weekend … if I really have nothing to do,” Kai explained.

The freshman lives alone in an off-campus apartment in Miami and has said her security team accompanies her as she goes about her daily life at school.

Kai said her schedule as a member of the University of Miami women’s golf team, combined with her classes, leaves her exhausted by the end of the week.

“Honestly, being a college athlete, I’m so tired because the whole day, I’m, like, grinding. I’m working out, I’m playing golf, and then I have classes. So, like, when I go home, I feel like it’s just like vacation,” she said.

Still, Kai said she’s set herself a new goal. “My goal the next two weeks is to have at least one weekend where I don’t go home,” she shared.

Her mother, Vanessa Trump — who divorced Donald Trump Jr. in 2018 and is now in a relationship with golf legend Tiger Woods — doesn’t always know when her daughter is headed back to Jupiter.

“So, I actually surprised my mom. She didn’t know I was coming home. I surprised her. She was playing tennis, and then we played doubles together,” Kai said.

Kai has spoken about having security with her as she goes about her life, including at college.

“Yeah, my security guards are always with me. They always walk with me,” she said in her latest vlog.

Her weekly trips between Miami and Jupiter have led some social media users to question what her protection costs taxpayers.

“How much is that costing the American taxpayer,” one person asked on X.

“That’s such a sad story. Going home every weekend in college is pathetic,” another wrote.

“Her entire life is one big f****** vacation,” another critic posted.

Others defended Kai, pointing out that going home on weekends isn’t unusual for college students who live relatively close to their families.

“Most people that live in Miami and attend UM also do this,” one person wrote.

“I’m anti-MAGA, but in fairness, what can she do on the weekends in Miami? She has the Secret Service around her 24/7, and her grandpa is president,” another commenter wrote.

Kai also detailed the demanding schedule that she says makes returning home feel like a vacation.

“So I wake up at 5 a.m. when I’m going to play golf. Um, from like 7 to 12, golf … Sometimes if I want to stay later, sometimes I’ll stay till 1,” she said of a typical day with the golf team.

“And then I eat lunch and then I have my classes start around like 2-ish, but then my classes go until later at night,” she continued.

Kai has previously said being a student-athlete has left her with little time to explore Miami.

“I’m here for golf. I’m not here to party in Miami so I guess it’s OK,” she said earlier in September.
