Jon Stewart Warns Dems How Midterm Blue Wave Could Crash Out Fast

Jon Stewart said Wednesday that he’s not sure a so-called “blue wave” during this year’s midterm elections will be the all-in-one solution Democrats are hoping for.

When asked if one potential downside to Democrats winning back Congress could be minority leaders Sen. Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (N.Y.) getting more airtime, Stewart said that the party just can’t stick with the status quo.

“What’s going to happen is they’re going to have to fucking do something. They’re going to have to deliver,” Stewart said. “They’re not going to be able– It will not be sufficient to make their entire personalities opposition to whatever Trump’s politics are. They’re going to have to have a prescription for rebalancing this economy in a smart and urgent way.”

However, Stewart explained that he isn’t confident such action is in the Democratic Party’s DNA.

“I’m actually hopeful that [Schumer] won’t be there as the leader. That they will come in and say, ‘We’re not gonna go down that corporatist path again. We are going to make the changes that the American people are demanding that we make in an urgent way that is not bound by some idealized vision that the parliamentarian might think is OK,’” he said. “Fuck that. Like, if you are granted control, if they give you the ring, do something with it, you bastards.”
