Hey, she works extremely hard… on avoiding her husband.
On Thursday’s episode of Jon Stewart’s podcast “The Weekly Show,” a listener asked the comedian if it “concerns him that Melania Trump works less days than you?”
The question was a bit spicy, considering that the first lady is rarely seen at the White House — or near her husband. In fact, over the summer, she vanished for about a month after her July 19 appearance at the FIFA World Cup. She reemerged in late August after details about President Donald Trump’s close relationship with his aide Natalie Harp sparked a media frenzy.

“What is she going in now, once every two weeks?” Stewart joked, then spitballed reasons he doesn’t think Melania Trump wants to be anywhere near the White House right now, which looks like a complete mess after the president demolished the East Wing to make way for his glitzy ballroom.
“By the way, would you go there?” Stewart said. “It’s a construction site. Why would you go there? ‘You know where I’d like to live? In that place where they just demolished, and there’s, like, a 40-foot sinkhole right outside.’ …The scaffolding is up, and the construction project is going on, and I’m sure she’s like, ‘I got a perfectly nice house down in Florida. And I don’t have to deal with this guy!’”
Stewart went on to point out, empathetically, that the first lady does indeed have a job — and it extends well beyond a typical nine-to-five.

“I think it’s a misnomer to say Melania Trump doesn’t work,” he said. “Being married to that dude is, I’m sorry, but that’s like what you hear about how they put finance bros through those training programs where they’re like, ‘It’s a hundred and sixty hours a week.’ …Married to that dude, that’s the most grueling job in America. That’ll wear anybody down.”
“I feel bad, I don’t even know why,” Stewart added before immediately having a change of heart mid-thought.
“Nah, you know what? She knew what she was signing up for,” he ultimately concluded.
“Fuck it, I take back my empathy! My empathy is now gone. Stewart doubled down. “Empathy gone!”
Maybe Stewart should take a note from Melania Trump’s infamous 2018 jacket she wore while visiting immigrant children in a detention center. The jacket infamously read on the back: “I Really Don’t Care, Do You?”
