Jon Hamm Opens Up About Becoming a Dad on TODAY, Including the 1 Thing He’s Most Excited About: EXCLUSIVE
Jon Hamm and wife Anna Osceola now have one additional outfit for their little one.
The former “Mad Men” star appeared on TODAY Sept. 23 to talk about his new series “American Hostage” on MGM+ in which he plays a radio host thrust into a crisis in 1977 when a hostage-taker demands he take his call on air.
During his chat with Craig Melvin, Hamm also spoke about expecting his first child with Osceola.
“It’s great,” Hamm said. “The best thing I keep hearing is how much it changes you for the better. I’m very excited. I’ve been around kids my whole life. I’ve been a teacher, my nieces and nephews and all that stuff, so I’m excited to start our own family.
“And it’s thrilling. And terrifying.”
The couple are gathering all the essentials that their newborn will need, including plenty of onesies.
Now, they’ll have one more, as the anchors surprised Hamm with a special TODAY onesie in honor of Hamm’s professed love for Bravo programming and “The Real Housewives” franchise.
The special onesie reads, “Going to bed, so daddy can watch Bravo.”
“Beautiful,” Hamm said. “This will get used, I can tell you that much.”
Hamm also received a special message from Sonja Morgan, a former cast member of “The Real Housewives of New York City.”
The “Your Friends & Neighbors” co-stars were first rumored to be welcoming a child in August.
Hamm, 55, and Osceola, 38, tied the knot in June 2023.
The following year, Hamm opened up to The Hollywood Reporter about possibly starting a family with his new bride.
Hamm told the publication his parents’ divorce when he was young initially turned him off of the idea of marriage. But all that changed when he met Osceola.
“Obviously, my parents were not married long,” said Hamm, whose mom died when he was 10, “so I don’t have a model to look at and go, ‘Oh, this is how one finds happiness.’ I just knew at a certain point I wanted to be with this person. But when I proposed, I was terrified. I was like, ‘What am I doing?’”
The actor went on to say he and Osceola enjoyed a “perfect” wedding day in Big Sur at the same location the “Mad Men” finale was filmed nine years before.
The “emotional” event, he said, gave him “a reset, a reboot, a reframe, a reimagining.”
“So, it’s been great. And I hope it turns into kids. It’s not lost on me that I’m 53. I will be the old dad, but so it goes. It could be a good thing. We’ll see,” Hamm said.
Less than a year before getting hitched, Hamm opened up about his relationship with Osceola during a September 2022 interview on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM show.
“This is another place in my life that I feel very settled and comfortable. I’m in a relationship right now and … it’s comfortable,” he said, adding, “It’s about taking care of someone else and being taken care of.”
Hamm revealed that after undergoing therapy to work on the “wound” of losing his mother at such a young age, he had become “opened up the possibility of things like being married, having kids, defining a new version of happiness, life, wellness.”
“It sounds hokey and whatever, but it’s real and for want of a better word, it’s what I’m working for. What else is there other than that?”
