Jake Knapp Withdraws From Truist Championship With Thumb Injury

PGA Tour golfer Jake Knapp has withdrawn from the Truist Championship in Charlotte due to a sprained left thumb, with replacements added to the field.
A late-week withdrawal is disrupting the PGA Tour’s schedule in Charlotte as Jake Knapp steps away from the Truist Championship.
Knapp, an American golfer, pulled out from the event on Tuesday, just two days before the opening round at Quail Hollow Club. The 31-year-old is dealing with the same sprained left thumb injury that sidelined him the previous week at the Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral.
Misryoum reports that this is not the first time Knapp has made a last-minute exit this season.. His withdrawal from the Cadillac Championship came shortly before his opening round. and he previously stepped away just ahead of his first round at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March. when no public reason was provided.
For the Truist Championship, Austin Smotherman is set to move into Knapp’s spot. Meanwhile, Collin Morikawa withdrew on Monday, which cleared the way for Andrew Putnam to join the field.
Injuries that arrive late in the week can ripple through tournament preparation, affecting practice plans and reshuffling who gets a chance to compete in a field’s final shape.
Knapp’s season, before the most recent setback, has been relatively steady.. Through nine tournament appearances so far. he has reached at least the top 11 in seven outings. with results that include a T6 finish at the Texas Children’s Houston Open and a T11 at the Masters. alongside a missed cut at The Players and a T74 at the RBC Heritage.
The Truist Championship field features major names and return appearances, with Rory McIlroy among the headline players.. He is set to compete at Quail Hollow for the first time this season. and he has historically thrived there. including multiple wins at the venue.. Misryoum notes that McIlroy most recently won the tournament in 2024.
Other players in the lineup include Cameron Young, who won last week’s Cadillac Championship, as well as Matt Fitzpatrick, a recent champion at the RBC Heritage and Zurich Classic.
While a single withdrawal may look routine in professional sports, it can also be a reminder that health and timing often determine who is able to perform when the pressure peaks.
