It’s taken over a year, but Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has finally hit a regular-season home run at Rogers Centre.
On a 3-2 pitch at the bottom of the fifth inning in a tight, must-win game against the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday, the Toronto Blue Jays star slugger pumped a 79 m.p.h. sweeper from Trevor Rogers to left field to, at long last, send the home crowd into a frenzy.
It was a sound Blue Jays fans had sorely missed, as Guerrero hasn’t hit a round-tripper at home in the regular season since a showdown against the Texas Rangers back in August of 2025 — he, of course, treated fans to a couple clutch dingers at home in the playoffs, however, with his last coming in Game 6 of the ALCS against the Seattle Mariners.
Calling it a trying year for the $500 million man, as he entered play on Sunday with a .259 batting average and only eight homers on the year. But in baseball, sometimes all it takes is one swing to change your fortunes.
