ISWAP Attack Repelled at Yobe Military Base as Fighting Leaves Dozens Dead

Misryoum reports that troops in Yobe repelled an ISWAP attack on a military base in Gujba, leaving dozens of insurgents dead and two soldiers confirmed killed.
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled a coordinated attack by suspected ISWAP terrorists on Buni Gari in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, killing no fewer than 50 insurgents during a fierce battle.. The military said the terrorists launched the assault on the Headquarters of 27 Brigade and the Buni Gari checkpoint from multiple directions in an attempt to overrun the location.. In a statement, the spokesman of Operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant Colonel
Sani Uba, said the troops resisted the attack with what he described as “devastating firepower, tactical brilliance and resolute determination.” According to the statement, the insurgents first attacked from the western flank before reinforcing from the southern axis through Ganinga Junction and later from the south-western direction in what appeared to be an effort to encircle the troops.. with devastating resistance that forced them to retreat in confusion while evacuating some of their dead and wounded fighters,” the statement said.. The military said troops maintained control of the camp throughout the encounter and prevented the attackers from breaching the facility.. It added that exploitation of the area led to the recovery of 10 bodies of terrorists around the camp, while intelligence reports indicated that more than 20 additional corpses were sighted along withdrawal
routes around Gashua, Azare and Kamuya.. The Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai was also said to have played a major role by providing Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance support, as well as carrying out precision airstrikes on fleeing insurgents.. Military authorities said the airstrikes accounted for the death of at least 20 additional terrorists during the operation.. Items recovered from the scene included eight AK-47 rifles, two General Purpose Machine Guns, two Rocket-Propelled Grenade tubes,
RPG bombs, ammunition boxes, loaded magazines, bandoliers and three Improvised Explosive Device canisters.. The military said troops and volunteer forces were conducting follow-up operations to track fleeing insurgents and prevent any regrouping in the area.. It, however, confirmed that two soldiers lost their lives during the encounter, while some personnel sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.. Operation Hadin Kai described the fallen soldiers as gallant personnel who paid the supreme price in defence
of the country, adding that troops remained battle-ready to sustain pressure on terrorist groups operating in the North East.
