Indiana deputies find three dead in apparent murder-suicide

murder-suicide in – Harrison County deputies responded to a welfare check at a southern Indiana residence and found three people dead, with authorities saying the situation followed suicidal thoughts expressed in a phone call.

Deputies in southern Indiana went to a home for a welfare check after a Mississippi man reported that his brother had expressed suicidal thoughts earlier Wednesday, and they later found three people dead inside.

The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department said its deputies were called to the residence after the family member reported the concerns by phone. After responding, deputies found a dead man on the front porch identified as 36-year-old Brett Dixon.

Inside the home, two more people were found dead: Melissa Cochran Dixon, 54, and Paul Dixon, 61, according to the sheriff’s office.

The department said Brett Dixon was shot twice, in the chest and head. It reported that Melissa Cochran Dixon suffered a single gunshot wound to the head, and that Paul Dixon sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Officials said they believe Paul Dixon is responsible for the shootings and that there is no threat to the community and no suspect at large.

“This incident is a tragic loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with the family, extended family, and friends of those involved,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
