UFC veteran Ilia Topuria has announced his UFC comeback after recent facial injury scare.
Earlier this year at UFC 250, Ilia Topuria suffered a brutal beating at the hands of Justin Gaethje. In addition to losing the match, Topuria also left the bout with a disfigured face and low chances of an octagon return.
The Spaniard suffered two broken orbital bones, a shattered septum, and a broken foot during his lightweight title match against Gaethje. Now, a few months later, Topuria has opened up and announced his return.
“Final medical tests done. I’m back. To all the clowns who’ve been talking shit and counting me out this whole time, here I am. Now let’s see who’s got the balls. Thanks to everyone for the support. Next time I’ll make sure they check Justin’s gloves so he doesn’t put anything weird on them. See you soon,” Topuria wrote on social media.
For the first time since getting injured, Topuria opened up and suspected something “weird” with Gaethje’s gloves during their match. However, Gaethje has come online and disputed the allegations.
Dana White addresses Ilia Topuria’s UFC return
Recently, in an interview with Jim Rome, UFC President Dana White also addressed Topuria’s much-awaited comeback. “Our guys are always in touch with him. We don’t have him on the schedule right now, but Topuria is ready to fight, and we’re ready for him.”
Despite the confirmation and the anticipation, UFC has not yet confirmed a location, date, or event for Topuria’s return fight, although he is heavily expected to fight UK’s Paddy Pimblett. Topuria, 29, has been a part of the UFC since 2020 and has won two multi-division titles.
