A deadly shooting in Holyoke has led to an arrest, but investigators say key questions remain as one suspect is still being sought.

According to Misryoum, Delani Rodriguez, 21, was charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Robert Abreu, 31, on April 18. Rodriguez was arrested in Springfield days after the incident and is being held without bail while the case moves toward a scheduled pretrial hearing.

Prosecutors say police were called to the area of 139 Sargeant St. after reports of a person shot. Misryoum reports that Abreu was found outside a van with an apparent gunshot wound to the neck and was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Prosecutors also allege that Abreu was targeted during a confrontation involving Rodriguez and her boyfriend. Daniel Medina. 22. who remains at large.. Misryoum says investigators described an ongoing conflict involving Rodriguez’s apartment and repeated disturbances tied to her neighbor. with Abreu identified as the boyfriend of that upstairs neighbor.

In court documents, Misryoum reports prosecutors allege that on the evening of April 18, Rodriguez and Medina opened Abreu’s car door and assaulted him while he was in the driver’s seat. Investigators say the struggle continued until Medina allegedly fired the gun, striking Abreu in the neck.

Insight: Cases like this often hinge on what investigators can verify after a fast-moving arrest and an ongoing search for a remaining suspect, especially where witnesses and evidence may be scattered in the days immediately following a shooting.

Authorities are asking for information about Medina’s whereabouts, Misryoum reports. Anyone with tips is being directed to contact the state police detective unit assigned to the district attorney’s office.

Insight: As the investigation continues, the next steps in the court process will likely focus on linking alleged conduct to specific evidence, and on what prosecutors can establish while Medina is still missing.
