Google Transforms Gemini Into An Agentic Workforce For Business

Gemini agentic – Google is evolving Gemini from a chatbot into a functional, autonomous agent capable of executing complex tasks for enterprise users.

When the screen at Thursday’s Google Cloud event shifted to show an AI managing its own tasks. the gap between a chatbot and a co-worker suddenly closed. Google is moving Gemini into the ‘agentic age. ‘ launching a unified system that does more than answer prompts: it executes. schedules. and bridges the gap between intent and action across corporate ecosystems.

For the millions currently using Google’s tools, this represents a shift in utility. Instead of merely generating text or code. these agents are designed to handle booking travel. scheduling meetings. and navigating internal data pipelines. The software now operates on objectives rather than simple instructions. allowing it to plan workflows. utilize specific tools. and pull from internal systems like Google Workspace. Microsoft 365. Slack. Jira. Confluence. Git. BigQuery. Databricks. Postgres. and Snowflake. It can even interface with external Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers to pull data from outside a company’s local network.

CEO Sundar Pichai noted that with over 1 billion monthly active users and nearly 90% of Fortune 100 firms already utilizing Gemini Enterprise. the infrastructure for this rollout is significant. To manage the risks inherent in delegating authority to software, Google is prioritizing business clients before a wider consumer release. This phased approach is intended to solve the pressing challenges of security, performance, and operational scale.

From the perspective of a corporate office. the agent functions less like a search bar and more like a new hire. It receives its own Workspace account, complete with an email address and a specific role in the team hierarchy. It understands who reports to whom. what time zones colleagues inhabit. and whose approval is required for a project to proceed. When the agent takes an action. it generates an audit trail. moving responsibility from human keystrokes to a traceable digital record. Users can monitor this progression through a ‘tasks inbox. ‘ which displays the AI’s logic. its subagent delegations. and the specific skills it has deployed.

Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, emphasized that users are not locked into a single technological path. While the system defaults to the best available model. it features a picker that allows businesses to switch to third-party options. starting with Anthropic’s Claude. with plans to incorporate open-source and private models in the future. To prevent spiraling overhead, Google has also introduced real-time spend caps, smart routing, and multi-model orchestration.

Early testing for the platform has already spanned a diverse group, including On, Shopify, and PayPal. Other prominent Gemini Enterprise customers involved in the ecosystem include BNP Paribas. Bradesco. Merck. Orange Spain. Santee Cooper. Ulta Beauty. and Wesfarmers. The agent is built to be ubiquitous, accessible across iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, command line interfaces, and platforms like ServiceNow.

This marks a new phase in software deployment where the AI is no longer just a reference tool sitting in a tab. It is now a participant in the group chat, tagged and tasked alongside the human workforce.
