Game 151, Red Sox at Rangers lineups and notes: Magic number is down to five – The Boston Globe

Despite being two games below .500, the Rangers are still in the hunt for a playoff spot, sitting just one game out of first place for the AL West behind the Astros. Houston owns the tiebreaker.

The Sox will go with lefthander Patrick Sandoval. The Rangers announced Tuesday afternoon that righty Jacob deGrom would get the start.

Notes: Sandoval is 1-3 with a 3.29 ERA in nine appearances (eight starts) against the Rangers. … The Sox are planning on keeping their rotation on track, with Jake Bennett getting the start for Wednesday followed by Sonny Gray on Thursday. … The Red Sox have held opponents to 1 or 0 runs in 39 times, matching their most in a season, along with 1946, since 1920. … In six appearances against the Red Sox, deGrom is 0-2 with a 2.50 ERA, striking out 36 while issuing jest seven walks in 36 innings. He got a no-decision his last time out despite striking out 12 in six scoreless innings against the Mariners. He was perfect through the first five innings of a 4-3 at Seattle. … Rangers third baseman Josh Jung is 4-for-9 with two RBIs since being activated from the injured list (left calf) on Saturday.
