Frederica Wilson MIA From House Votes With No Explanation

Rep. Frederica Wilson has missed dozens of House votes since mid-April, raising questions after inconsistent Service Academy Day posts on social media.

An 83-year-old Florida congresswoman’s growing absence from House floor votes is drawing renewed scrutiny, with little publicly offered explanation for why Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-FL) has stopped participating in roll calls.

Wilson has not voted in the House since April 17, according to a tally shared by congressional reporter Jamie Dupree. The reporting notes that she missed all 10 House votes on Wednesday, pushing the total to 43 consecutive missed votes.

Questions have also focused on Wilson’s social media activity this week.. Dupree pointed to images posted on Wilson’s X account that appeared to be from a “Service Academy Day” at Florida International University.. The issue. according to the reporting. is that the same type of photos from the same event had been shared last October—suggesting that the recent post may not match the timing implied in the wording.

Wilson’s post described hosting a “Service Academy Day at FIU. ” saying it brought together representatives to share guidance with the next generation.. That phrasing has fueled questions about whether the event referenced in this week’s images occurred recently. or whether the posts instead recycled materials from months earlier.

Wilson is not the only House member whose voting record has raised concerns this term.. Rep.. Tom Kean Jr.. (R-NJ) has also been absent from House activity since March.. In a statement issued by Kean’s office later. he was said to be dealing with an unspecified “personal medical issue. ” and the congressman has not yet returned to the House.

At a time when the House majority margin remains narrow, member absences can quickly become politically consequential. In addition to the ongoing vote-missing cases, Republicans and Democrats have also been contending with losses due to deaths of members since the start of the 119th Congress.

So far this term, four Democratic members have died: Reps. David Scott (GA), Sylvester Turner (D-TX), Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ), and Gerry Connolly (D-VA). Scott was 80, while the other three lawmakers were in their 70s.

The combination of repeated absences and earlier deaths has left Congress operating with a changed roster. intensifying attention on whether and when other lawmakers will return to full participation.. For Wilson. the latest controversy centers less on what has been said publicly and more on what has not: no clear explanation has been provided for the long stretch of missed votes or for the apparent mismatch between event wording and the timing of social media images.

  1. this is honestly so frustrating like just tell people whats going on, nobody is asking for your whole medical history just say something. my boss would fire me if i missed 43 days of work with zero explanation and i dont even make anywhere near what these people make off taxpayer money.

  2. wait i thought she already retired a few years back?? i could swear i saw something about that i might be mixing her up with someone else but i feel like this happened before. either way if shes 83 she probably should not even be in congress anymore no offense but thats just too old to be making decisions for the whole country. my grandpa is 81 and he cant even work the tv remote. not saying shes the same but still the whole congress is just way too old across the board and nobody wants to talk about that part of it.

  3. so she posted old photos and pretended it was recent?? thats actually kind of wild if true. like why would you even do that, just dont post anything. the whole recycling pictures thing is what gets me more than the missed votes honestly because at least with the votes maybe shes sick or something but the photos thing seems like someone on her team is actively trying to make it look like shes working when shes not and that feels different. idk maybe im reading too much into it but it just seems shady.
