Four Arrested in Alleged Kidnap Plot Targeting LUANAR Student

Police in Kanengo arrested four men accused of attempting to kidnap a LUANAR student and intimidating her mother over a debt.
A kidnapping attempt at a busy shopping area was interrupted after police moved in quickly on a tip from a LUANAR student.
Four men have been arrested in Kanengo after investigators say they planned to abduct a female student from the LUANAR NRC campus, as well as intimidate and allegedly extort her mother.
Police say the suspects were picked up on May 2, 2026, at Shoprite Area 49, shortly after the student reported the matter and raised concerns about a suspicious call.
Misryoum understands the men arrested are Faraz Suleman (47), Suleman Seleman (37), Rahim Mwachumu (40), and Royd Nanthengwa (49).
In this case, the investigation centers on claims involving a debt that police say was tied to the student’s mother while she was abroad. Investigators allege she borrowed USD 4,000 from Eric Makanjira, then declined repayment after settling bills on his behalf.
Police allege that Makanjira responded with threats, warning that if the money was not paid, he would arrange for the kidnapping of her daughter. Misryoum notes that the alleged pressure is said to have reached the student directly as well, including demands for her to intervene.
On May 2, the student reportedly received a call from an unknown number requesting that she meet at Shoprite in Area 49. After noticing warning signs, she alerted police, prompting detectives to set up an operation at the scene.
Investigators say the four suspects were arrested as they allegedly tried to force the student into a Toyota Surf with registration number BQ6408.
Authorities say the suspects are expected to face charges related to attempted kidnapping, intimidation, and attempted extortion, with a court appearance planned once documentation is completed.
Meanwhile, Misryoum reports that police are working to trace Eric Makanjira, who is believed to have orchestrated the plot.
