Forensic psychiatrist says Trump’s ‘alarming’ mental decline poses ‘extremely dangerous’ risks to the world

Forensic psychiatrist Bandy Lee, who has tracked Donald Trump‘s mental fitness since 2016, stated that the president’s grasp on reality appears to be deteriorating. She warned that his psychological state has placed the world in an “extremely dangerous” position.

Lee made these remarks on MeidasTouch’s The Weekend Show, highlighting Trump’s recent attempt to insert himself into the September 11 attacks. She said this behavior showed “how fragile he is in his sense of self.”

Lee compared this behavior to that of a young child seeking to be “king or queen of the universe.” She added, “It is abnormal and pathological when it involves a fully grown adult, whether it is because of arrested development or because one has regressed to that state.”

She described “alarming indications of how endangered he feels psychologically and how he needs to fight back, and become the most powerful and dangerous person on the planet.” She added, “That is where his mind is going.”

She further stated that Trump’s mental state has placed the world in an “extremely dangerous” position. “The setup that we have is that we have no way of countermanding a, fit or not … there’s no way to countermand a nuclear weapon,” she said.

Footage of Trump dozing off constantly tied to cognitive strain

Lee, now president of the World Mental Health Coalition, also identified a separate pattern beyond the 9/11 remarks. She referenced footage of Trump appearing to doze off in public on several occasions, including cameras catching him with heavy eyelids during the 9/11 memorial as victims’ names were read aloud.

She attributed these episodes to the cognitive strain of a challenging midterm election environment and the economic consequences of the war in Iran.

At a 9/11 commemoration ceremony in September, Trump gave a new account of his whereabouts during the 2001 attacks, claiming that first responders pulled him from the rubble of a World Trade Center tower and that he personally dispatched teams to assist with the response.

Fact-checkers found no basis for his statement. Trump later used Truth Social to clarify that the incident occurred after the attacks, stating it happened “obviously not on the same day as the collapse, but shortly thereafter.”

During Trump’s first term, Lee assembled two dozen mental health experts for the bestseller The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump. This project led to an invitation to brief lawmakers on Capitol Hill regarding his fitness for office.

The book examined Trump’s psychological profile years before Lee assumed her current role at the World Mental Health Coalition.

In 2020, Lee faced backlash from Trump’s inner circle after stating on social media that his supporters were experiencing a “shared psychosis” and that then-Trump attorney Alan Dershowitz had “wholly taken on Trump’s symptoms by contagion.”

Yale terminated her position shortly after, citing a violation of the American Psychiatric Association’s Goldwater Rule.
