EV Showcases Set for Millbrook and Mobile Saturday

Drive Electric Alabama is bringing free, hands-on EV showcases to Millbrook and Mobile Saturday, with owners on hand to answer questions and discuss ownership benefits.

Electric vehicle curiosity is set to meet real-world driving experience this Saturday, with two free, hands-on showcases planned for residents in Millbrook and Mobile.

Organizers with Drive Electric Alabama and the Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition say the events are built around an interactive lineup of electric vehicles. giving attendees a chance to see different types of models in one place and then talk directly with EV owners.. The presentation is aimed at both drivers who are seriously weighing a switch and people simply trying to understand what life with an EV looks like day to day.

Attendees will be able to ask questions and hear firsthand experiences about topics that often shape whether people feel ready to adopt EVs. including cost savings. driving range. charging options. and maintenance.. For Michael Staley. the president of the Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition and an EV owner. the timing is especially urgent as families confront rising fuel prices.

“With gas prices rising sharply, more drivers are taking a serious look at electric vehicles,” Staley said, adding that EVs can reduce fuel and maintenance costs and that meeting current owners is one of the most direct ways to understand the benefits.

The Millbrook showcase is scheduled as part of the fourth annual Millbrook Mayfest. It runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at Village Green Park, 3160 Park Circle, Millbrook, Alabama 36054. The event is free.

Later that same day in Mobile, the Bay Area EV Showcase will take place from 10 a.m.. to 2 p.m.. at Greer’s Supermarket, 260 St.. Louis Street, Mobile, Alabama 36602, also free and open to the public.. Local leaders say the Mobile-area chapter is particularly enthusiastic about the opportunity for neighbors to connect with EV drivers.

“EV owners here in the Mobile area love the chance to meet people and share our experiences with driving electric every day. ” said Dale Holden. a local leader in the Bay Area chapter of Drive Electric Alabama.. He pointed to how day-to-day savings can add up. encouraging residents to attend to see the range of EVs available now and to hear from owners who live with charging and maintenance choices every day.

The push for broader EV adoption in Alabama also intersects with the state’s economic development picture.. The event organizers highlighted that EVs represent a significant economic benefit for Alabamians. citing several automakers and manufacturers that are building EV-related vehicles and platforms across the state. including Mercedes-Benz in Tuscaloosa. Hyundai in Montgomery. Autocar in Pinson. and New Flyer in Anniston.

State policy and infrastructure planning are also part of the backdrop.. The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) coordinates a grant program intended to increase the number of public charging stations statewide. aiming to make EV ownership more convenient.. ADECA has also recently announced a new round of funding through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program.

Together, the scheduled showcases and the infrastructure-focused grant activity underscore a broader effort underway across the state: helping residents understand EVs while also working to expand the charging network needed to support everyday driving.

  1. Wait so is this just like a car show or can you actually test drive them because the article says hands on but I dont think they let you drive them. Either way I might take my husband out there Saturday if the weather is good. We been thinking about switching but he says the charging thing is too complicated.

  2. I read that these EV events are actually run by the government to get your personal info and push you toward buying one. Thats why its free, nothing is ever really free. And gas prices are going up because of the same people pushing EVs so it all kinda connects if you think about it. I wouldnt go personally. My buddy went to one of these in Tennessee and said they were really pushy about signing up for stuff.

  3. Ok so I actually own a Chevy Bolt and honestly the maintenance savings alone are worth it I havent had an oil change in two years people dont realize how much that adds up. The range thing everyone panics about is way overblown for just normal daily driving around town. I wish they had done this event closer to Huntsville though cause Millbrook is kind of a drive for me and I wouldve loved to talk to people about it. Gas prices being this high people really need to start seriously looking at this stuff instead of just dismissing it.
