Police in Malawi have detained 43 individuals in Nsanje and Chikwawa following a wave of mob violence fueled by false rumors regarding the disappearance of private parts.
The number of people arrested in connection with the “missing private parts” violence in Nsanje District and Chikwawa District has risen to 43.. Out of those arrested, 27 are answering murder charges linked to the killing of seven people suspected of being involved in the alleged disappearance of people’s private parts.. Another 16 have been arrested for allegedly spreading false information about missing genitals, which police say triggered panic and mob justice attacks in the
two districts.. Deputy spokesperson for the Malawi Police Service, Alfred Chimthere, identified some of the suspects as Boniface Beka, Clement Kaduya (39), Precious Kaduya (39), Shadrick Sande (20), Chisomo Eliasi (18), Jeremiah Esaya (20), Edward Fatsani (20), Nelson Andisen (18) and Beatrice Geofry (42), all from Nsanje.. Police say medical examinations conducted on people claiming their private parts had disappeared found that there was no physical loss or abnormality.. Meanwhile, spokesperson for the Malawi Police
