A new Diablo 4 patch is landing just as players are pushing deeper into endgame. and it tackles some of the most frustrating friction points head-on.. The most talked-about change in the Lord of Hatred update cycle is the overhaul to how the Burning Butcher plays out. with Blizzard confirming that the boss has been substantially debuffed.

The patch. described as the first substantial update post–Lord of Hatred. includes a long list of changes spanning bug fixes. quality-of-life improvements. and tweaks across multiple systems.. While many adjustments are described as minor. several touch directly on the way players farm. collect. and navigate content that has become central to the current endgame loop.

One of the biggest headline items sits in the endgame section: the Burning Butcher has been significantly toned down.. The boss now has considerably less health, and at least one of its abilities has been reduced in effectiveness.. Blizzard also removed a stealth-related behavior that previously could force the encounter to behave more aggressively even when players went stealth.

On the Talisman side, Blizzard’s patch introduces clearer ways to find charms. According to the notes, charms now feature a distinct sound and minimap icon, aiming to reduce the “hunt and hope” problem players can face when trying to locate specific items during busy sessions.

Not every item change is straightforward.. The patch notes also state that a “useless unique item” can’t be transmuted anymore.. That single line has already raised questions in the community about what the game intends for items that were previously treated as candidates for transmutation. and whether the change reflects a broader shift in item value or balance.

Several stability and progression problems were also addressed.. For players who invest time in War Plans and farming patterns, the update includes an adjustment to an exploit.. Blizzard says an infinite farming exploit in Nemesis Boss Lairs has been shut down. and it also notes that unintended rewards have been gated off again as required.. In other words, the patch aims to bring reward consistency back in line with intended gameplay.

The notes further emphasize that many classes receive their own sets of specific alterations and fixes. alongside a broader set of changes described as covering “plenty more” across the game.. While the exact class-by-class details are presented in the patch list. the overall direction is a smoother experience. with fewer detours caused by bugs. exploits. and confusing interactions.

The update is set to go live on May 13. with the Burning Butcher effectively becoming the first target of the post–Lord of Hatred balance pass.. For players still wrestling with that encounter. the message in the notes is direct: “Butchers beware. ” because the fight is no longer tuned to be as punishing.
