MAGA influencers went off on Rep. María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) on Thursday after she dropped an ad blasting President Donald Trump over his immigration crackdown in her district.
“Mr. President, some of your immigration enforcement efforts have gone too far. In July, 50% of the 50,000 people that were detained had no criminal record. Be careful what your advisors are telling you about immigration policy. The same Hispanics who helped you get to the White House in 2024 feel betrayed today,” she warned in the ad, which ran in both English and Spanish.
Salazar’s ad landed with the impact of a political earthquake as pundits from both sides of the aisle were stunned to see a Republican in a seat Trump won by 15 points so publicly breaking with him.
Many of the MAGA faithful also reacted with shock, which quickly turned to anger.
Anthony Sabatini, a MAGA activist and Florida county commissioner, shared the ad and wrote, “Deport her ASAP.” Salazar, a longtime news anchor in Florida, was born in Miami and is a U.S. citizen.
“This is an absolute betrayal of Trump and his 77 million voters. President Trump should immediately revoke all support and endorsement of this woman,” replied Fox News host Tomi Lahren.
