Deion Sanders questions Jaguars after Travis Hunter draft

Deion Sanders said he never heard from the Jacksonville Jaguars about Travis Hunter after the team drafted him in 2025, arguing that his experience could have helped with managing the rookie’s development and keeping him ready.

Deion Sanders sounded frustrated that Jacksonville never reached out after it took Travis Hunter with a major move in last year’s draft.

The Colorado coach tied his disappointment to comments he made about needing to be approached as a coach. not a father. when speaking about his relationships around the league.. He pointed to the Browns as an example. saying that in 2025 he received no questions from Cleveland about coaching Shedeur Sanders.

On the Barbershop podcast with Garrett Bush, Sanders then turned to the Jaguars.. “Even a guy like Travis Hunter. being drafted to Jacksonville. and I’ve had him for the last three. ” Sanders said.. “Don’t you think you would want to talk to me to let me know. to ask me how — what gets him going and what backs him off and. and what. like. you wouldn’t want to know that?”

His argument is straightforward: the value of experience gained by working with a standout player before he reaches the NFL.. Sanders said he already knew how to get Hunter “the best. ” adding that even if Jacksonville chooses to operate differently. it would still make sense to collect what could be “potentially relevant information” to shape the plan for using Hunter on both sides of the ball.

That point lands on the practical decisions the Jaguars still face. Sanders noted that Hunter’s two-way role will require effective usage and also keeping him healthy, while Jacksonville tries to devise a way to make that work.

In one breath, Sanders stressed the investment Jacksonville made and the simple step he says never happened: the Jaguars moved up three spots in 2025, from No. 5 to No. 2, to land Hunter, yet Sanders said he has not been contacted “to date.”
