Dan Lanning blasts Oregon’s leadership after ugly film review of Oklahoma State disaster

The Oregon football team lost a rough non conference game in recent days to a rebuilding Oklahoma State squad. Oregon head football coach Dan Lanning is frustrated with his team, after an inconsistent start to the 2026 campaign.

Specifically, Lanning is not happy with his team’s leadership.

“And that starts with me,” Lanning said, per ESPN.

Oregon lost to the Cowboys in Stillwater, 39-31. The Oregon defense was able to keep the team in the game, but the Ducks struggled offensively. Lanning didn’t enjoy having to watch the film back.

“It really looks very similar to what it felt like on the field,” Lanning said. “We did not perform at any level that was winning football. … Sometimes you’ve got to learn hard lessons through hard performances, and this is — you know, this is by far the worst performance that we’ve had since I’ve been here.”

Oregon made mistakes against the Cowboys, including seven penalties. The Ducks also went for it on fourth down several times in the game. Oregon finished 0-for-3 in those situations.

“Wrong decision on my part,” Lanning said. “So I learned, too.”

Oregon has gotten out to a shaky start to the season. The team is 1-1, with a victory over Boise State. Oregon had some problems in that game, before finally pushing past Boise State.

Following the loss to Oklahoma State, Lanning is committed to fixing the team’s issues.

“I’m anxious to go play. I think all of our players are anxious to go play,” Lanning said. “I’m certainly anxious to get our guys back out in the field.”

Oregon has made the College Football Playoff in 2024 and 2025 under Lanning. The Ducks next play Portland State on Friday, before Big Ten play begins.
