Court Orders DNA Test in Abandoned Baby Case

A 23-year-old woman faces legal proceedings after allegedly dumping her newborn in a pit latrine, with paternity disputes now complicating the case.
Reading Time: < 1 minute The trial of the woman who dumped her new-born baby is far from over as the court has directed that a DNA test be conducted to determine the biological father of the child.. Lindo Kunene (23) was arrested last month after she allegedly dumped the baby in a pit latrine moments after giving birth.. The young woman appeared before Pigg’s Peak Principal Magistrate Nonhlanhla Dlamini.. It was gathered that the
alleged father is disputing that he is the biological father of the baby.. He is said to have disclosed that he only had sexual intercourse with the young woman in December last year.. The alleged father argues that he cannot be the biological father as the baby was born at full term and not prematurely.. It has also emerged that the woman has another baby, about a year old, and the alleged father of that
child is also disputing paternity and reportedly wants a DNA test.. Kunene’s baby was discovered by an eight-year-old boy who had gone to use the toilet on April 10.. According to sources close to the matter, the child heard what sounded like a baby crying from inside the pit latrine and quickly alerted an elderly person, who then confirmed that it was indeed a baby.. Sources within the community revealed that when confronted, the woman
initially denied being pregnant or giving birth.. However, it later emerged that she was indeed the mother of the infant.. The woman and the baby were taken to Pigg’s Peak Government Hospital, where they received medical attention before the mother was taken into police custody and formally charged.
