Substantial cash stolen from Drumkeen home while vacant

A substantial sum of cash has been stolen from a house in Drumkeen. Gardaí say the home in the Callancor area was raided whilst it was temporarily vacant. Between 6:30pm on Wednesday the 27th of May and 7pm on Wednesday the 3rd of June, the house was entered after a kitchen window was smashed. Gardaí say a locked inner door was forced open, and a substantial amount of cash was stolen. They are appealing to anyone who may have observed any type of suspicious activity,

vehicles or people in that area between those dates to make contact with Ballyshannon Garda Station on 071 98 58 530. Any relevant information may alternatively be passed on to Gardaí via the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111. Garda Grainne Doherty has shared the following tips for anyone who is planning to go on holiday, and will be leaving their house vacant for a period of time: Ask a trusted neighbour to conduct frequent checks of the property and to report anything suspicious

to Gardaí. Ensure that your house alarm is set. Install timers on internal lights and motion detectors on external lights. Ensure that the building doesn’t look neglected; cut grass, trim hedges etc. Ask a neighbour to collect your post. Inform your local Garda station of the dates when the premises will be vacant. If going on holiday, she has also asked that your posting on social media be restricted as it may alert thieves to the fact your home is currently empty. Garda Doherty says

to: Avoid posting to social media about upcoming travel plans. Don’t post status updates about your holidays while you’re still away. Don’t post pictures while you’re away. Respect other people’s privacy, don’t tag others while they are on holidays. Consider turning off the location sharing setting on your phone. Always look out for neighbours, family and friends by reporting any suspicious activity you may observe to Gardaí immediately.
