Canucks GM Search: Pierre Dorion Interviewed In Person

Misryoum reports Pierre Dorion met the Canucks during their search for a vacant GM role, as Vancouver reshapes hockey operations.

Vancouver’s search for a new general manager just took a significant turn, with Pierre Dorion reportedly meeting the Canucks in person as the club weighs its next hockey operations leader.

Misryoum understands Dorion. 53. is among the names being explored for the vacant GM position after the Canucks parted ways with Patrik Allvin at the end of their season.. Dorion spent seven seasons as general manager of the Ottawa Senators. from 2016 to 2023. before being dismissed following an NHL investigation connected to how information was handled during a 2021 trade involving Evgenii Dadonov.

The Canucks’ inquiry into multiple candidates points to a widening process rather than a quick conclusion, with Misryoum noting the club has also been linked to other executives in recent days.

This matters because the GM hire is expected to set the direction not only for roster decisions. but also for how quickly Vancouver can reverse a difficult stretch.. The Canucks finished 32nd in the standings with a 25-49-8 record and have missed the playoffs in consecutive seasons. and in nine of the past 11.

Meanwhile. Canucks president Jim Rutherford has indicated that the eventual appointment would be positioned to succeed him as head of hockey operations in the near future.. With that timeline in mind. the interview stage becomes more than a formality: it’s a test of whether a candidate can translate a rebuild plan into results fast.

Another key backdrop is the NHL Draft lottery scheduled for Tuesday, where Vancouver holds the best odds. A strong outcome could give the new decision-maker additional leverage, but the franchise still needs the right leadership to turn draft positioning into a sustainable contender.

At this stage, Misryoum notes the process appears ongoing, with additional candidates still being assessed as the Canucks work toward a longer-term reset.
