Buccaneers legend who helped smash Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes in Super Bowl declares he’s still No. 1
Lavonte David got the best of Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in Super Bowl LV, but he thinks the QB is the best in the league.
The Kansas City Chiefs are reminding everyone that they are still in the midst of a dynasty, and Patrick Mahomes is reminding everyone that he is still one of the best quarterbacks to ever do it. The Chiefs have five Super Bowl appearances and three Lombardi Trophies to their name since Mahomes became their starting quarterback.
The two-time MVP has two seasons to his name with greater than 5,000 yards and 40 touchdown passes. He is also a six-time Pro Bowler, and his arm strength, creativity, accuracy, and winning ways made it clear that he was the best player in the league for a good chunk of time.
The Chiefs struggled last season, though, even missing the playoffs in their entirety. Plus, Mahomes had the worst productuon of his career, excluding the rookie season in which he only played one game. The quarterback suffered a brutal leg injury that ended his season, too. Because of that, many started to wonder if the dynasty was done and Mahomes’ superstardom was past.
The QB was electric in the Chiefs’ 33-30 win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2, and now his team is once again looking like Super Bowl contenders. A former rival of Mahomes, Lavonte David, who helped the Tampa Bay Buccaneers get the best of Kansas City during Super Bowl LV, has long respected the talent that Mahomes is.
“I’m going to always think [Mahomes] is the best quarterback; I’ve got a lot of respect for Pat,” David told Kay Adams. “Him, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, those guys are the future of this league and those guys are proving it week in and week out… [Last season] had a lot of different turnover. It’s crazy; he tore his ACL, the season wasn’t going good, but now I feel like he is back in his true form and it is showing.”

Mahomes is only 31 years old, so he should have plenty of good years ahead of himself. The Chiefs’ defense is revamped, and the offense is much more balanced with reigning Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker getting carries now. The dynasty seems poised to be extended, and Mahomes seems ready to get back into MVP conversations.
