Browns’ Todd Monken sends warning to rest of NFL despite getting embarrassed by Jaguars

Every NFL team came into Week 1 with optimism over the new season. The Chicago Bears put up 59 points, the Detroit Lions walked away with a gritty overtime win, and the New York Jets displayed immense potential. The Cleveland Browns didn’t leave their game against the Jacksonville Jaguars inspiring much optimism, though.

The Browns lost their first game by a score of 34-10. The team allowed the Jaguars to put up 360 total yards and for Trevor Lawrence to throw four touchdown passes before he was taken out of the game. The defense was bad, but the offense may have been even worse. Deshaun Watson couldn’t get anything going, and rumors have already begun over Shedeur Sanders taking over under center sooner rather than later. Todd Monken, the team’s head coach, still has optimism for his team, though.

“They better get us now,” Monken said. “We’ve got a good, young group. We just didn’t play well today.”

Monken’s sense of optimism may inspire his team, but most football fans aren’t buying it. The team traded away reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett in the offseason, and their quarterback situation is the worst in the NFL. Even though there are a lot of young weapons in Cleveland, including Harold Fannin Jr., Quinshon Judkins, Denzel Boston, and KC Concepcion, those youngsters might still be a couple of years away from performing at their best.

ClutchPoints predicted Cleveland to go 5-12 coming into the season, and even that looks overly optimistic after the Browns’ Week 1 disaster-class.
