The Blue Jays recalled Schneider and left-hander Brendan Cellucci from triple-A Buffalo on Monday, the team announced. Both players will be active for Monday’s game (7:07 p.m. ET / 4:07 p.m. PT, Sportsnet and Sportsnet+) against the Detroit Tigers.
To make room on the roster, Ricky Tiedemann was optioned back to Buffalo and outfielder Rudy Martin Jr. was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain.
Schneider last played for the Blue Jays on Aug. 21 against the New York Yankees.
He’s struggled over his time in the majors this season, with a .142/.295/.274 across 140 plate appearances with the Blue Jays.
But has found success at the plate in the minors, as he has a .910 OPS and 10 home runs over 52 games at the triple-A level.
Cellucci, 28, joins the team where he could potentially make his MLB debut.
Drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 12th round of the 2019 MLB Draft, Cellucci has a 3.16 ERA over 51.1 innings of work with Buffalo this season.
Tiedemann heads back to triple-A after another stint with the big club. He pitched in Sunday’s win over the Baltimore Orioles, giving up one hit and one walk while striking out one.
Sunday’s outing lowered his ERA to 1.50 over six innings with the Blue Jays.
Meanwhile, Martin hits the injured list shortly after making his MLB debut.
After 12 seasons in the minors, Martin made his MLB debut against the Orioles and went 0-for-2 with a walk over three plate appearances.
The Blue Jays enter Monday’s game against the Tigers one game back of the Cleveland Guardians for the final wild-card spot in the American League.
